Automating Your Welding Operations is Good for Everyone Involved

From your most talented welder to your operations leaders to your shareholders: everyone will feel the benefits of a well-designed robotic welding cell. It will reduce welding fatigue, exposure to hazardous fumes, and risk of injury for your workers while also increasing your throughput for your customers and profitability for your business.

Robots lay consistent, repeatable welds using through-arc seam tracking, machine vision, preprogrammed positions, or a combination. By sourcing the right equipment and designing custom fixtures, we can ensure that the system will hold your tolerances. Automating even a few processes has become a productive and cost-saving innovation for companies of all sizes thanks to recent advancements in robotics.

But if you want to get the most out of your robotic welding system, it’s vital to bring the right people into the design process from the start.

Your Operation is Unique, So Don’t Settle for a Standard Solution

There are many ways to lay a proper weld and tons of variables to consider when automating. From materials to welding processes to robot reach, your welding needs will be different from others, so before you invest the money in a new robotic welding system, make sure it covers all your bases and helps you reach your goals.

Standard, scalable robotic arc welding cells offer the best combination of price and performance. Colewell provides complete robot systems, available in several flexible, modular packages.

THE RESULTS SPEAK FOR THEMSELVES

From 5 Humans + 2 Weeks
To 2 Humans + 3 Days

Not only did this system address labor shortages and quality issues, but this system is a complex, hyper-fill welding cell that lays twin wires. NOT an easy cell to automate. Thing cranks out the heat!

With labor shortages and shrinking profit margins, you can’t afford not to automate welding production these days.

And we make it easy on you and your team. Take it from Founder, President, and COO of North East Machine & Tool, Curt Chase:

“We can put any operator on this cell and the HMI walks them through the processes and tells them exactly where a fault is.”

Your Biggest Welding Pains are Our Favorite Challenges

The most common welding applications we automate for growing manufacturers include:

Spot Welding

Electricity passes between the two metal bases, creating a pool of molten metal. The pieces of metal are joined together.

Arc Welding

It reaches a temperature of 6,500˚F at the torch's tip. The metal is heated, creating a pool of molten metal beneath the torch that solidifies upon cooling. The parts are permanently fused together.

Drawn Arc Welding

It reaches a temperature of 6,500˚F at the torch's tip. The metal is heated, creating a pool of molten metal beneath the torch that solidifies upon cooling. The parts are permanently fused together.

Tig Welding

Electricity passes between the two metal bases, creating a pool of molten metal. The pieces of metal are joined together.

A Beautiful Robotic Weld Starts with a Lot of Research

Every project starts with a qualitative and quantitative investigation to gain a deeper understanding of your welding processes.

Offline Robotic Weld Programming

One trick we use to decrease lead time and get you up and running faster is using simulation software to lay out your system, design your program, and run cycle time analysis. This streamlines the build process on our floor as well as installation on yours.

If you’re already running production, we can create a new robotic welding program offline so you can get a new product up and running in hours versus days (or even weeks sometimes).

Longer Lasting Weld Consumables

We select weld consumables based on amperage and cooling to reduce waste. As a result, contact tips, nozzles, and liners last longer.

Smart Cell Layout and Work Area

A more efficient workflow for the operators and easier access for maintenance and repair.

WELD PERIPHERALS

A Little Something Extra

Take advantage of advanced welding technology and robot welding features to enhance your welding automation. You can improve weld quality, shop floor safety, and your overall speed and efficiency by adding weld peripherals. Common add-ons include:

  • By preventing clogged nozzles, defects and rework can be prevented. A nozzle cleaning station automatically cleans dirt, debris, and spatter during routine passes.

  • Make sure there are no inconsistencies in the wire length. You can achieve more consistent welds and a more reliable arc by cutting the welding wire to a specified length.

  • For quick, automatic adjustments of the Tool Center Point (TCP), TorchMate compensates for bent torch barrels and worn contact tips to increase system productivity and reduce weld defects.

  • Instead of standard push feeders, push-pull guns can be added to enable advanced welding processes.

  • If the repeatability of your parts is less than half the diameter of the weld wire, we can install lasers and other seam-tracking equipment to produce high-quality welds.

  • To make your workspace perimeter more secure, use safety light curtains, protective fencing, and e-stops.
